( quest )

Who: Raven Reyes (mentions of Clarke)
Where: West of La Llorne
When: After the fall of Caer Scima
What: Her Quest -- getting some of the inhabitants to join up with the Third Tooth
Warnings: None

The battle for Caer Scima was hard enough, wrought with exhausted hours of weaponry. On top of that came the evacuation. Bellamy had appeared at her tent with Clarke, urging her (read: being difficult enough to force the issue in his very Bellamy Blake way) to head out of Dodge and now. She told the others to not mind her, not wanting the fuss that came with her prior injury. At first it wasn't bad. She knew the importance of why they needed to get out. This wasn't their war, and with the survival mentality that her, Bellamy, and Clarke had, it was their safety that mattered to at least Bellamy and Raven. Clarke had that whole savior mentality and survivor guilt going on, but Raven and Bellamy were hard enough on her that she knew she had to leave.

That was not the case for Raven and Bellamy.

But each one seemed to have their own journey allegorically as well as physically. With the survivors of Caer Scima scattering throughout the Unseelie territory, they needed to get roots elsewhere. She knew Saber wished to involved her in more weapon skills with the magic of this place, but Clarke, being ever the leader she was, got herself involved in more evacuation processes. The shardbearers were not the only ones affected by this war. On the outskirts of La Llorna, many settlements had popped up. Their people seemed to be out on their own, and with the war turning the way it did, people needed to alley. They needed to consolidate.

Many of the settlements to the west of La Llorna were struggling on their own, many of their people becoming wanderers. It was her and Clarke's task to group them, to get them to come to contribute to the Third Tooth instead of squabbling the resources of Dorchadas between them. The land itself was harsh enough in the mountainous region outside the city. It held many dangerous plants and animals, making it too easy to pick off the people staying there. She had been tasked with Clarke to at least get them to settle in the Third Tooth.

Problem was that Raven wasn't the diplomatic type. She was better on busting balls and getting on people's asses. But a people person? That wasn't entirely in her list of skills. Give her something to figure out, and she could work at it and improve on it. But people? This was going to prove difficult.

Of course she could offer her services, much like Clarke was doing with her medical skill. And Raven tried; she really did. But the trek out was making her crabby enough to not entirely start out on a good leg -- pun not intended. She was mostly war torn when she started at the first settlement, wishing to speak to a group of leaders. Plus her leg was not easy to work with. She had the brace Erik had made for her, but travel was not easy, and each settlement she came to, she needed time to just settle herself lest she freak out first. But she knew what she wanted to get out of this, and she tried to emulate what she thought Clarke was doing. She needed to be the leader that the blonde girl was. And Raven did look up to her in many ways. She managed to keep it together when Raven let her emotions and opinions known. So she at first offered to fix anything broken or amp up their weapons. It was something she could contribute after all.

And so they agreed. But the more she started to look into this, giving them at least something to give in their interest, Raven quickly realized this was not something she was good at. Magic was not her forte, and most of the weapons she would considered outdated at best. Blades needed to be sharpened, they needed better weapons in general, and why the hell couldn't she just find chemicals for an easy grenade? But no, this was not as easy as just going in, checking some guns, working on an aiming system, or improving on whatever they currently had.

Plus this was not happening as quickly as Raven wanted it to. She knew she could be a little impatient, setting up expectations of how this should have gone. But she figured if she did this in one group, trying to align some of the local settlements that it would go smoother. Raven wasn't the type to give up. Of course offering her skills was more of a frustrations, but word had spread rather quickly when she had set up a secondary meeting with more settlements.

It soon seemed that that was one of the perks to coming to her, that her skill was gaining her notoriety and allowing her to possibly get farther, but that didn't really put her in the best of moods. She just wanted people to listen to her. What she was offering was a genuine good deal. But being out where many of them were, it wasn't like they had the same resources. This was in their benefit, dammit.

So she started listing the benefits. They didn't have to be so nomadic, they could start trade routes with the other cities around. Yes, the Unseelie had taken a hit, and Caer Scima was in ashened ruins, but they would not be beat down. There was still enough powerful cities that could bounce back from this. There was also the chance of being protected far better as a large group of people instead of random, scattered settlements that were far more likely to get picked off especially given the types of flora and fauna around La Llorna. Did they really want to take that chance? Raven actively voiced she thought they were straight up fools if they didn't come together.

But they wanted to deliberate, come to some conclusion. Her impatience, quick temper, and loud mouth was enough for her to not end up being so diplomatic. While the meetings had started out cordial, by the end Raven was being as blunt as possible. This would not be a waste of her time. And if they didn't want to end up starving, out and alone in the clear wilderness, then they needed to get their asses in gear and listen to her.

By the time she reached the last of the settlements, she had it up to hear with this whole procedure. She came in quick and straight forward. This was what needed to be done. They were packing up and going to head out. It was safer for them, and she did not have the patience she did with the first few meetings. They needed to get out. There was no other questions.

So she started delegating groups. One to gather the people and their things, one to take care of the elderly and injured, and one to scout ahead. They were leaving as soon as they could get out. Of course it seemed to cause far more chaos, but Raven was good with that. She talked to the leaders, telling them if they wanted to survive the season to just listen to her. Some tried to balk, but she would just ask them if they wanted to kill off their people. Was it an exaggeration? She didn't exactly care.

This was her duty, and no one was going to come between her. Clarke may have said something, but she wasn't Clarke, and she didn't do things like the other girl. Raven seemed to thrive like this anyway. Working as a mechanic, often she was in stressed environments especially when the Ark, the space station she lived in, was dying? Saving people? She could do this.

Once the groups of people were set up, she'd be the one out there, yelling for them to move along faster. It took some hours, but eventually it seemed that people were finally coming out with all of their possessions. She couldn't imagine being in that position, and yet, she went down to earth with the clothes on her back and that was it. Crisis made a lot of people have to leave everything behind. Maybe that should have made her more compassionate, and she did feel for them, but the way things have happened since the imps dumped her on the floor of Caer Scima had just escalated so fast. She wanted a chance to unwind and process everything that had happened herself.

But finally this settlement had come around. Lines had formed, and they started to head out. There was a proud feeling then. She had gotten more people out of the situations they were in. Would it be easy? Of course not, but then life was never guaranteed to be that way. It was these moments that she missed Finn the most, moments she needed to lean on him, and just have something to make her smile. She was glad to have Clarke and Bellamy of course, but Finn was family. He had a way about him that made people unwind when they needed to the most, and right now in the midst of a war torn territory, she needed that kind of relief despite the fact that things were now going in her way.
